First Look
The very first hello. A gentle look to find her heartbeat, to see how many are in there, and to take a small measurement so that you have a number to hold onto between your provider’s appointments.
Most women book this one for a reason they do not quite say out loud. Sometimes it is a loss before. Sometimes it is simply that the first appointment is four weeks away, and four weeks is a very long time to wait when you are frightened. Either way, this session is built around sitting with it rather than hurrying through it. I put the sound on the speakers and leave it running.

- Before nine weeks I may suggest a different approach for a clearer view. That is entirely your choice, and I will always ask you first.
A gentle word: before seven weeks her heartbeat often is not visible yet, even in a perfectly healthy pregnancy. If you come at six weeks and we do not see it, that means very little, and I will tell you so. You will not pay, and I will bring you back.

Reassurance Peek
For the quiet weeks in between, when everything is fine and yet you cannot quite settle. A short, unhurried look at her heartbeat, her movement and where she is lying, with a first sweet profile in 2D.
This is the session I am most protective of. There is no limit on how often you may come, and nobody here will ever ask you to justify it. If seeing her once a fortnight is what lets you sleep, then that is what we shall do, and I will be glad every time you walk in.

Pink or Blue?
No blood draw, no waiting on a laboratory, no envelope arriving from a stranger. We look together, on the screen, in a warm room, and you find out in the same moment I do.
We begin at sixteen weeks for a reason. Earlier than that the anatomy is genuinely ambiguous, and I would far rather tell you nothing at all than tell you something you go on to paint a nursery over. If she is curled away from us and I am not certain, I will simply say so, and bring you back at no charge.

Hello, Soon! — our 3D, 4D and HDlive portrait
Our signature session, and the one women drive from El Paso for. A full half hour of scanning — not a half-hour appointment, a half hour of actual, unhurried time with her — rendered on the GE Voluson E10 with HDlive Studio.
3D gives you her portrait, still and soft. 4D is that same picture moving, so you get the yawn, the hand drawn across her face, the hiccups that make everybody laugh. And HDlive adds a little light source that I move around her while you watch — the difference between a grey plaster mask and a real face with a shadow beneath her nose.

When to come
Twenty-seven to thirty weeks is the loveliest window. Before twenty-four there is not quite enough softness under her skin yet, so the render looks a little stark. After thirty-three she is running out of room and there is less fluid in front of her face to see through. If you telephone me at twenty-two weeks, I will gently say so — even though it means you come to me later.

The Reveal Studio
You take the whole room for an hour. We scan first with the screen turned gently away, and then set the reveal up in front of everyone you brought with you.
- A backdrop, florals and a soft pink-and-charcoal styling set already waiting

- Two cameras — one on the reveal, and one on everybody’s faces, which is the film you will actually rewatch
- A little 60–90 second edit in your hands the same day, and everything else within two

Only one person at Baby Beats ever knows the answer, and she writes it on a card that goes straight into a sealed box. Nobody at the front desk can spoil it, because nobody at the front desk knows.

The Homecoming
For the parent who is not here. A private, invitation-only video link into the scanning room, with a second camera pointed at the display so that he sees her properly — full size, softly lit — rather than a telephone waved at a monitor.
And we work to his clock, not ours. If the only usable window in his whole day is half past four in the morning our time, then that is when I will unlock the door. I have done a great many of those, and I would do a great many more.
- A low-bandwidth mode that holds together on a satellite connection
- The whole session recorded for both of you, so that he can watch it again later, alone, when the connection is better
- A second heartbeat keepsake posted to his APO/FPO address, at our cost

The Heartbeat Keepsake
We record about twenty seconds of her heartbeat straight from the machine while you listen, and then sew the little recorder into a plush animal you choose from the shop floor — a bear, a lion, an elephant, a giraffe, a hippo, a fox, a monkey or a unicorn. Squeeze the paw, and there she is.
The recorders last for something like ten thousand plays, and the module lifts out through a seam so the toy is washable. We keep a copy of the audio on our side forever. Mothers do come back years later after a washing-machine accident, and we can always make another.

What these sessions are not
Every session on this page is elective and non-diagnostic — for bonding, and for joy. We do not perform anatomy surveys, we do not measure fluid for a clinical purpose, we do not assess placental position for your delivery, and we do not give medical advice. You must be under the care of a licensed prenatal provider to be scanned here, and we will gently ask.
That said — every study is quietly over-read by a board-certified Maternal-Fetal Medicine physician within seventy-two hours. And if something ever looks wrong to my trained eye, I will tell you calmly and privately, and help you get in front of your own provider that same week. It has happened only a handful of times in fourteen years. It matters more to me than everything else on this page put together.
